A special stamp was designed to mark the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence.
The brief was to design a stamp that was dignified and elegant. The coat of arms is embossed with texts in gold metal foil.
A first day cover envelope was designed with gold printing. The cancellation stamp is in the shape of the heraldic shield.
The stamp sheet features a printing visible only in UV light. The map describes the genetic background of the Finnish population. On the reverse of the stamp sheet is an iconic photograph of a Finnish lake by Martti Jämsä.
Two typefaces were designed especially for this stamp.
